Version History
Track file modifications and access history. See when files were last modified and by whom.
File Versions and History: Stay Confident You’re Using the Latest
In engineering, “the right file” also means “the right version.” DrawingManager helps you understand what changed, when it changed, and which files are active—so teams can avoid working from outdated drafts and can keep projects moving with confidence.
See all revisions at a glance
DrawingManager groups related files so you can quickly see all revisions of a part or drawing in one place. Instead of hunting through folders or relying on memory, you get immediate visibility into what versions exist and which one is most relevant.
Current file status: available vs released
Beyond revision history, DrawingManager shows the current status of files—such as whether a document is available (work-in-progress) or released (approved/issued). This helps non-engineers and downstream teams quickly select the correct document without accidentally using unfinished work.
Tracks modification dates as part of indexing
Each time DrawingManager indexes or re-indexes a file, it records the file’s modification timestamp. This makes it easy to spot recent work, sort by “last changed,” and identify files that haven’t moved in months.
File system metadata at a glance
DrawingManager surfaces key Windows file metadata such as creation date, last modified date, and file size. This gives quick context when comparing similar files or validating which document is newest.
Author and ownership visibility
When author information is available in Solid Edge properties, DrawingManager makes it searchable and visible—helping you understand who last touched a file and improving collaboration awareness across the team.
Find stale files and reduce library clutter
Large libraries accumulate old concepts, superseded parts, and abandoned variants. By filtering and sorting by last modified date, you can quickly identify stale files for review, cleanup, or archiving—without guessing.
Recent activity for active projects
Use date-based filtering to focus on “what changed recently.” This is useful for standups, handovers, and keeping track of active project work—especially in teams without a full PDM system.
Useful without replacing PDM
DrawingManager is not a full Product Data Management (PDM) system, and it doesn’t attempt to replace formal versioning, workflows, or approvals. Instead, it provides practical history signals—revisions, status, timestamps, and searchable metadata—that help teams stay organized and avoid the most common “wrong version” mistakes.
Bottom line: DrawingManager gives you fast visibility into revisions, release status, and file recency— helping you work from the latest approved information and keep large libraries under control.
