Cloud Drive Support
Index files from SharePoint, Dropbox, OneDrive, and other cloud storage services. Access files wherever they are stored.
Index Solid Edge Files Across Network Drives and Cloud-Synced Folders
Modern engineering teams don’t store drawings in one neat folder anymore. Files live on network shares, in synced cloud folders, and across mixed storage setups that evolved over time. DrawingManager is built for that reality: it indexes and searches Solid Edge libraries from any location Windows can access.
Works anywhere Windows can see files
DrawingManager can index:
- Local folders (C:\ drives, external drives)
- Network shares & NAS (mapped drives or UNC paths)
- Cloud-synced folders (SharePoint/OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more)
Because DrawingManager is Windows-native, you don’t need special “connectors” per cloud vendor. If a folder appears in Windows like a normal directory, you can index it.
Cloud drives: fast and reliable (with one practical rule)
Most cloud platforms support “online-only” placeholder files to save disk space. During testing we found the important boundary:
DrawingManager indexes files that are available locally on your PC (downloaded / offline-cached). Online-only placeholders won’t be indexed until they’re downloaded by the sync client.
This isn’t a limitation unique to DrawingManager—it’s a consequence of how Windows exposes file contents. To read Solid Edge metadata and custom properties, the file content needs to be accessible.
Best practice: mark your active project folders as “Always keep on this device” (or the equivalent option in your cloud client) for complete property-based indexing.
Mixed storage? One index, one search experience
Many teams use multiple storage solutions at once: a network drive for released drawings, SharePoint for collaboration, and Dropbox for external partners. DrawingManager can index all of them at the same time and present them through one search interface—so users don’t have to remember where something “should be.”
Automatic updates when files change
When your storage solution syncs changes to Windows (cloud client or network share), DrawingManager detects updates and keeps the index current:
- New files get added
- Modified files get re-indexed
- Moved/renamed files stay discoverable
The result is a searchable library that reflects what your team is actually working with today.
Why this matters for engineering teams
If you’re trying to find drawings by more than just filename—part numbers, project codes, customers, materials, revisions—your files need to be indexed with their engineering properties. DrawingManager delivers that across real-world storage setups without forcing you to restructure folders or migrate systems.
Bottom line: keep your existing storage strategy. Make sure the files you want to search are available locally, and DrawingManager will do the rest.
