Automatic Monitoring
Watch folders for changes and automatically update the index. Never manually refresh again.
Automatic Index Refresh: Always-Relevant Search Results
DrawingManager’s speed comes from its local index, and its accuracy comes from keeping that index current. This page connects to the other core features: indexing builds the searchable database, property reading makes engineering metadata searchable, and the automatic refresh keeps your index relevant over time—without manual intervention.
Scheduled refresh every 15 minutes (default)
DrawingManager stays up to date by running an automatic update cycle every 15 minutes by default. During this refresh, it checks your configured locations for new or modified files and updates the index accordingly.
Designed for real-world folder structures
Engineering libraries often contain thousands of folders and deep project trees. Instead of relying on continuous folder watching (which can be inefficient at that scale), DrawingManager uses a predictable scheduled refresh to keep your index current while staying lightweight and reliable.
Automatic re-indexing for changed files
When the refresh detects that a Solid Edge file has changed, DrawingManager re-reads the relevant properties and updates the index entry. That means your searches and filters reflect the current file state—not stale metadata.
New files are discovered automatically
New files can appear in many ways: copied from colleagues, extracted from email attachments, generated by Solid Edge, or synced from collaboration tools. The 15-minute refresh picks them up automatically, adding them to the index without you needing to trigger a manual scan.
Handles moves and deletions
If files are moved, renamed, or removed, the next refresh updates the index so results don’t point to outdated paths or missing files. The goal is that search results match what’s actually available in your configured locations.
Configurable behavior
You control which folders are included in indexing. If needed, you can adjust your indexed locations to exclude areas that change frequently or aren’t relevant—keeping refresh cycles focused and efficient.
Visibility and confidence
DrawingManager provides status information about indexing and refresh activity so you can see that updates are running and that your index is being maintained.
Bottom line: DrawingManager keeps search results relevant with a lightweight, predictable approach: a scheduled index refresh every 15 minutes (by default) that updates new and changed files automatically.
